VISION
EMEDICAL.COM, INC
The EMedical.Com, Inc. d/b/a www.ezmedicaloffice.com is a privately held corporation, formed in
2001 to build the most practical and the most affordable web-based EMR. The
EZChart, the company’s flagship offering, provides physicians and all
healthcare professionals with a secure, simple and supported transition path to
a paperless medical office world while improving patient care, increased
practice profitability and HIPPA compliance. Based in Rosemead City,
California, the EMedical.Com, Inc. fosters its competitive edge through
continuous dialogue with a growing number of nationwide physician members and
advisors.
ELECTRONIC MEDICAL RECORDS
1.
The Institute of Medicine (IOM), in its November 2003 report, “Patient
Safety: Achieving a New Standard of Care”, encourages hospitals and physicians
to adopt electronic medical records as a major step in preventing medical
errors. The IOM also backs a national health information infrastructures and
information exchange network that could eventually make use an EMR necessary
for participating in national program such as Medicare.
2.
The AAFP has
estimated that less than 5 percent of all U.S. physician practices are using an
EMR. Electronic records are making headway in hospitals and large group
practices, which usually have information technology staffs and seven- or
eight-figure IT budgets. But small groups and solo offices are a tough
environment: they have tiny budgets, no IT staff (the ones with a knowledgeable
office manager are lucky), and little spare time to get things running without
a major impact on revenue.
3. It is clear to all physicians
that EMR is a new emerging standard for medical records. EMR improves patient
care by helping the physicians spend more time on patient care and less time on
charting. In addition, EMR improves reimbursement. Managed care and insurance
companies, as well as Medicare and Medicaid administrators demand detailed
documentation and often reduce payment if certain information is missed on the
chart. Accordingly, physicians could spend as much as 1/3 to ˝ of their time on
paperwork.
4. Recent survey shows that
although physicians understand the need for EMR, only a very small fraction of
physicians use EMR. There are very clear reasons: Practitioners could not be
convinced to use computers in the exam room when costs, training and necessary
system changes were difficult to justify.
